The Arizona Department of Education has announced that Kiva has been awarded the highest label under AZ Learns, the state's accountability measure for schools.  Congratulations, and thanks to the Kiva faculty and staff for their hard work!

Important Message to the Community

from New Superintendent Dr. Gary T. Catalani

Due to proposed budget reductions from the State Legislature, Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) has been looking at many different ways to save money.

One of the options proposed to the SUSD Governing Board was a change in start times for our schools for next year. This would have saved the District $500,000.

However, after receiving a great deal of community input and talking with staff throughout the District, Dr. Catalani has decided to remove this option from the list of possible budget reductions. Thus, there will be no changes to school start times for next year.

Dr. Catalani will establish a task force to study all aspects of time in our schools including start time, length of the school day, length of the school year and more.

We are also reviewing the bus stops that are within a mile radius of each school. Our Transportation Department is working closely with each school site during this process. We do not receive State funding for busing students from these locations. However, Dr. Catalani wants to assure all stakeholders that any bus stops that pose safety concerns will not be eliminated (for example, a bus stop within a mile of a school that, if eliminated, would require students to cross a busy street).
