Review - Behavior Connections

Dear Parents,

Two years ago, the Kiva PTO sponsored a series of evening workshops
designed by The Cline/Fay Institute to help parents with "the most
important job there is".  The Kiva PTO hosted a series of three evening
workshops designed specifically for parents and the instructor covered
the following key points to help parents deal with children of all age.

* teaching family values
* setting and enforcing limits
* mediating sibling issues
* guiding an ADD/ADHD child
* prepareing for teen years
* facilitating homework/grades
* establishing family traditions
* reducing arguing/refusal
* getting chores done
* reducing guilt
* resolving friendship issues

Throughout the parent classes, the focus was on becoming a "love and
logic" parent.  The classes were presented by Sharon Alexander of
Behavior Connections (www.behaviorconnections.com).  Love allows
children to grow through their mistakes and logic allows children to
learn from the consequences of their choices.  What is the love and
logic process?  The process includes shared control whereby the parent
gains control by giving away the control you don't need.  Shared
thinking and decision-making in the process provides opportunities for
the child to do the greatest share of the thinking and decision-making.
Equal shares of consequences and empathy are utilized.  An absence of
anger in the parent causes the child to think and learn from his/her
mistakes.  Enhancing the child's self-concept is key as this leads to
improved behavior and achievement.

For DVD and CD and printed material on the love and logic process,
parents are invited to the Kiva Media Center to check out relevant books
and video material.  Would you like to have more fun being a parent?
Would you like to take better care of yourself and have children profit
from it?  Are you aware that parental anger and frustration actually
fuels misbehavior in children?  Then this information may be just what
you're looking for?
